VOTE to Support Social Justice

Voting is the most important thing we can do to support social justice. Only 52% of the eligible voters in Texas ever register and vote. That means that your vote has a big impact, and every vote for social justice is super important! Early voting in Denton runs through May 3, and election day itself is May 7. If you live in Denton County, check that you are registered at VoteDenton.gov, or if you are not registered you can get information about how to register to vote in future elections.

Below are some links to find more information about the next election.

All voters in this election will see two constitutional amendments. The Texas Legislative Council has published an analysis of these two measures; there is a full version and a condensed one.

Denton Independent School District voters will vote on candidates for places 3, 4, and 5:

City of Denton voters will elect candidates for council member place 5, council member place 6, and mayor, place 7:

Be an informed voter! The Social Justice Team urges you to read the analyses of the constitutional amendments and to visit the candidate sites to learn more about their political positions. You can search local media outlets for endorsements as well as the websites of your favorite organizations and political parties. If you live outside Denton County, you can find your local ballot on your county’s election site and then do a web search for candidate names with the office the candidate seeks (example: Jane Doe school board place 1).

Promote participation! In the coming months consider how you can encourage voting by becoming a Deputy Voter Registrar or an Election Clerk to help run elections (see VoteDenton.gov for more information). For now, you can share this messageremind your friends and neighbors, and make a plan to vote (early voting through May 3, or on election day on May 7).

Please exercise your constitutional right to engage in the democratic process: VOTE!
