Racial Justice Book Study

The DUUF Racial Justice Book Study Group is beginning again! Our Fall group will be featuring the book: Waking up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race by Debby Irving. With this book as a guide, we will explore our own identities, looking at our stereotypes, our principles and values, and our assumptions about people of other racial backgrounds. We will see the roots of our white systemic privilege and take a journey together to gain new insight and address issues that concern us.

Your assignment if you choose to participate: Access the book and read the selected chapters for the week ahead and journal a response to the one question at the end of each chapter. This assignment should take about 2 hours of your time per week. For the first week, we will read the Introduction and first three chapters.

Our time together will involve responding to the readings for the week and applying this to our lives. Come ready to talk about how that chapter impacted you. If you are interested or have questions, email Nancy Fire at prior to September 5.
